1. Cloth - This silk cloth belonged to the New Home Club and was used in 1950 during a High Holiday service at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music on Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee. The club's original name was the "Society of Friends" and was founded in 1937 by 40 refugees from Germany and Austria, led by Dr. Alfred Beutler. The group met periodically at the Jewish Community Center and its initial goals were to provide an opportunity for newcomers to get together and help each other in adjusting to the American way of life. In 1940 the name of the group was changed to the New Home Club, meaning its members had identified with their new home in a new land. They broadened activities to include charitable programs and assistance to newcomers in the process of adjustment.
